Many ISL teams are looking for a fresh start under a new coach after their underwhelming performances this season. Midway through the ISL league stage, Bengaluru, Kerala Blasters, and Odisha FC all parted ways with their coaches. Chennaiyan FC was added to the list as they parted ways with Csaba László on Saturday.
Since as many as three ISL teams seek new head coaches, here are 5 former managers who might return to the ISL.
5) Steve Coppell
The Englishman entered Indian football with Kerala Blasters when it was announced that he had signed with the Tuskers for the 2016 season. In his debut season for his new club, Steve Coppell led the team to the ISL finals where they were defeated by ATK FC. He was named as the head coach of the newly formed team Jamshedpur FC the following season. The Red Miners missed out on the top four by a whisker, finishing 5th in the points table behind FC Pune. In 2018, Steve Coppell was entrusted with the job of leading two-time champions ATK for the 18-19 season. However, Coppel’s ATK had a disappointing season, finishing 6th in the league table. ATK parted ways with him soon after and the Englishman has not managed a club since.
