Mumbai City FC is all set to compete in the AFC Champions League next season after emerging as League Champions of ISL 2020-21. Backed by a capable set of individuals led by Sergio Lobera, the fans will be having high expectations from the Islanders when they play in the ACL next year.

In light of the recent announcement by Mumbai City FC that Adam Le Fondre will be joining Sydney FC on a two-and-a-half-year deal, the Islanders are now without a top forward. Backed financially by the City group, we can surely expect Mumbai City to make a high-profile signing in the forward department before ISL 2021-22 starts.

Keeping the longer season in ISL 2021-22 and AFC Champions League in mind, here are 5 forwards Mumbai City FC can target.

5. Pedro Conde (Al Dafra)

Pedro Conde has been a top-class striker in the Arabian Gulf League for quite some time. Playing there for the last 3 seasons, the Spaniard has netted 30 times in 52 appearances. This also includes two ACL goals for Shabab Al Ahli in ACL 2020. The 32-year-old forward has played in Segunda B and Super League 1 along with the Gulf League so far and has consistently been successful in terms of goals. His contract with Al Dafra runs out this summer, and given Sergio Lobera’s Spanish connection, he could be a tempting candidate for Mumbai.

4. Sergio Castel (UD Ibiza)

A known name in Indian Football, Castel plied his trade for Jamshedpur FC when Atletico Madrid’s B team loaned him out here. After a decent season for The Red Miners where he scored 7 goals in 11 appearances, the forward returned to Spain and signed for Segunda B side UD Ibiza on loan. He has scored sevens times so far this season for his new team alongside 3 goals in the Copa Del Rey. The Spaniard recently made the headlines for scoring a double against La Liga side Celta Vigo in the same tournament. The 26-year-old has been an important part of Ibiza’s squad but with his contract expiring in May, Mumbai can tempt him for a return back to India with the chance to play in the AFC Champions League. The Spaniard in his prime years will be a great signing for Mumbai given their desire for continental success.
