AFC Champions League is the pinnacle of the club football in the AFC region. Every club starts it’s season with a major goal in their checklist, which is to qualify for the Champions League. Top flight clubs from the footballing powerhouses of Asia test their mettle in this annual continental league to get named as the reigning champions of Asia.The current format of the competition was launched in the year 2009 as a double round robin group stage of 32 teams while the competition had its inception back in 1967 as the ‘Asian Club Championship’.
FC Goa made history as they became the first ever Indian team to get a direct entry in the group stage of the tournament. The Gaurs are a part of the West Region which would formulate the A-E groups.
