After spending 6 years at FC Goa, Mandar is set for new adventure as he is all set to pen a deal with Mumbai City FC.
After agreeing terms with Lobera, Mumbai City FC and Sergio Lobera are now focused on making moves for the few FC Goa players. Ahmad Jahouh is all set to join his former boss at the City of dreams. Mourtada Fall is another player who’s under the Islanders radar. But before that, Mandar Rao Desai is all set to make headlines as he is set pen a deal with the Islanders.
The 28 years old Mapusa boy came through Dempo’s youth system. He came into spotlight when he had terrific season under Brazilian legend Zico in 2015. Gaurs were runner ups that season. Mandar has played 97 matches in the Hero ISL for FC Goa and holds the record of most appearances for the same club in the ISL. He has played 2 ISL finals, unfortunately losing both of them. Although Mandar won Super Cup with FC Goa.
In the ISL 2019-20, FC Goa were the League Leaders and they became first ever Indian club to qualify for the AFC Champions League. Mandar was wearing captains armband for the Gaurs. While playing as Fullback, Mander made some terrific overlapping runs. He notched up 4 assists last season. Mandar played as a left back when Indian team kept cleansheet and earned a point against mighty Qatar National Team at their own den. It was a night to remember for the Blue Tigers.

With City Football Group backing Mumbai City FC, it looks like the Islanders are on a roll in the transfer market. They have already secured signings of young prodigies like Mehtab Singh and Phurba. Rakip and Tondomba will also be wearing the blue of Mumbai next season. It will be homecoming for local lab Farukh as he has signed a long term deal with the Islanders.
It seems FC Goa will be very busy in the transfer market this season as many of their players have decided to move away. Gaurs are yet to appoint a new head coach. Gaurs are set to play in the prestigious AFC Champions League, but with all the recent player movements happening around the club, it will be not be easy for them replace the outgoing players.
