All India Football Federation’s Executive committee recommend Asian Football Confederation to allot a AFC Champions League slot to Indian Super League champions. I league clubs may now remain satisfied with AFC Cup slot.
The detailed matter
After AIFF President Praful Patel’s interactions with I league clubs on 3rd July, AIFF Executive Committee met on 9th July to decide a crystal clear future roadmap of Indian football. After going through detailed discussion and keeping in mind various sponsorship issues, AIFF’s executive Committee decided to request Asian Football Confederation to grant a AFC Champions League Slot to the winner of Indian Super League. They also requested the superior confederation to take the matter of ISL-I league merger into their hands.
Earlier representatives of I league club send a joint letter to AIFF President Praful Patel citing their demands in which it was clearly stated that, “I league clubs do not want to give away their AFC Champions League Slot”. But AIFF’s Executive Committee now seemed to have dismissed their demand because of a master agreement signed between AIFF and their Commercial partners.
What’s next?
Its only a matter of time now for AFC to accept AIFF’s recommendation and grant AFC CL slot to the winner of Indian Super League. This may arise huge controversy which may include the intervention of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. All eyes are now set on AFC’s declaration on AIFF’s request.
