1In a surprising turn of events, Mohammedan SC have completed the signing of one of the brightest Indian defenders Anwar Ali. Our sources can confirm that Anwar has been roped in by Mohammedan SC and announcement of the same will be made soon.
The 19 years old centre back from Punjab is a Minerva Punjab academy graduate. Anwar has played for Minerva Punjab before he was loaned out to Indian Arrows. He was a standout performer for the Arrows in the Hero I League.
Mumbai City FC created a huge buzz when they signed Anwar Ali from Minerva Punjab by paying transfer fee of 30,00,000 but they again loaned him back to Indian Arrows. He was back at Mumbai City FC in 2019 and was set to appear for the Islanders in the ISL but unfortunately because of the heart condition which was detected before the national team camp, he was ruled out for the season.
Anwar has played for India U17 in the FIFA World Cup as well as India U23. He was also called up for the senior national team camp but hasn’t made his debut yet. Anwar scored a stunning freekick for India U20 in a memorable 2-1 win over Argentina U20.
Mohammedan SC have been battling it out in the I-League 2nd division since few years now but they have a great chance this year to finally break the jinx. Whether the deal is a short loan spell or a permanent signing is still unclear. Anwar Ali will be a valuable addition for Mohammedan SC in their quest for the I-League qualification.
