ATK Mohun Bagan has completed the signing of youngster Ricky Shabong on a multi-year deal from Indian Arrows, IFTWC can confirm. The youngster will travel to Maldives if his visa is sorted.
Shabong, only 18, featured regularly for the Indian Arrows in the I League over the last two years. The Meghalaya-born player started his career with Royal Wahingdoh FC before joining the Arrows set-up in 2019. Shabong had been a regular in the youth teams of India, featuring in the AFC U16 Championship in 2018. He was also a part of the 22-man squad that took part in the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers, 2020.
Ricky Shabong has been the heart of the midfield for the Arrows over the years. His importance in the team is evident from the number of minutes that he has played for them over the past two seasons. He has mostly played for the Arrows in the defensive-midfield position.
ATK Mohun Bagan after failing to land Lalengmawia Apuia, have now turned their eyes toward other prospects. Ricky Shabong is a promising midfielder, capable enough to break into the first XI. Training with star players like Lenny Rodrigues, Hugo Boumous and Joni Kauko will be a massive learning experience for the 18-year-old.
ATK Mohun Bagan has already started their pre-season with the AFC Cup group stage round the corner. They are currently training in Kolkata, before they fly off to Maldives for their AFC Cup fixtures. They will face either Bengaluru FC ir Club Eagles on 18th August followed by Maziya SC and Basundhara Kings.
