ATK Mohun Bagan are set to strengthen their midfield with the addition of Konsam Phalguni Singh, the best midfielder of the most recently concluded I-League season, IFTWC can confirm.
“Phalguni has agreed to sign for ATK Mohun Bagan. Several ISL clubs, including Northeast United and Kerala Blasters, wanted him, but ATK Mohun Bagan have closed the deal,” source close to the development informed IFTWC.
Before joining TRAU in 2018, Phalguni was plying his trade for NISA who play in the Manipur State League. Phalguni was vital for the TRAU FC team, which won the I-League 2nd division on the tournament’s final day. Phalguni slowly established himself in the team.
Phalguni made his I-League debut against the Kolkata giants East Bengal a couple of seasons ago. But the 26 year old midfielder came into the limelight last season. With Phalguni wearing captain’s armband, TRAU FC were extremely close to clinch the I-League title. Phalguni was awarded the best midfielder’s award and also featured in the team of the season.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Phalguni also contributed offensively by scoring three goals and grabbing one assist. The Manipur born midfielder clocked 1476 minutes in the I-League this season. He showed maturity on the ball, and his work rate was immense. Safe to say, Phalguni controlled the midfield of TRAU FC.
ATK Mohun Bagan have been very active in the transfer market, having roped in Amrinder Singh, Deepak Tangri and Liston Colaco from their ISL counterparts. Phalguni will be another quality addition to the star-studded squad in their quest of winning the league title. Both the parties have agreed the terms, only a matter of time before the contract is signed.
