Avilash Paul to stay at ATK until 2024.
The shotspotter from Bihar has penned down a long term contract with the ISL Champions. Avilash Paul is not the first player to sign a longterm deal with ATK Mohun Bagan as Subhashish Bose and Sumit Rathi have already signed 5 year deals.
The Pune academy graduate comes with experience of playing in the AFC Cup as he previously appeared for Aizawl FC in 2017-18. Before Aizawl FC, Avilash had one year stints with Gangtok Himalayan FC, East Bengal and Kenkre FC. He joined ATK in 2018 hoping to make it big in the top division of Indian Football.
Avilash has failed to get playing time at ATK in 2 seasons. He is yet to make his ISL debut for ATK although he played for them in the Durand Cup 2019. With Avilash between the sticks, ATK kept a cleansheet against Mohammedan Sporting in a 1-0 victory.
Arindam Bhattacharya had a brilliant ISL season and he made some brilliant saves in the knockout rounds last season. He was a key member for ATK last season and will be again guarding the posts for ATK Mohun Bagan in the upcoming season. It seems it will be tough for Avilash Paul to get much playing time as young goalkeeper Lara Sharma is also pushing for gametime.
ISL has made it mandatory to sign atleast 4 goalkeepers for each club. Avilash becomes their third goalkeeper with Arindam Bhattacharya and Lara Sharma being the other two.
