India will take on Bangladesh tomorrow in a crucial match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian cup joint qualifiers. Igor Stimac was wary of his opponents tomorrow and discussed the quality that our neighbours present.
Speaking to the media, Igor Stimac acknowledged how huge the match would be. The coach said, “The match against Bangladesh is a big game for our fans and the team. We are going to approach the game to win it without meaning any disrespect to our opponents. Our aim has stayed the same since the beginning – to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023.”
Bangladesh had held India to a 1-1 stalemate back in 2019 in the reverse fixture. Igor was wary of Bangladesh and commended their defensive work. On preparation ahead of this game, he added, “Bangladesh were also in a similar situation to us as far as preparation is concerned. But they have the advantage of their players being much more competitively fit as their season ended in the second week of May in comparison to most of our players not having any competitive football since February.”
On the back of a fighting 1-0 defeat against the Asian champions, Igor Stimac expressed that he expected India to keep the ball better. He added, “We are going to try to show some composure different from that of the Qatar or Oman match. It’s up to us whether we can handle the match better in regards to ball possession, ball movement, speed and accuracy of passing and the eventual execution.”
India would be looking to end their winless streak when they face Bangladesh on 7th June at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. India currently sit 4th on the points tables with 3 points whereas Bangladesh are at the bottom with 2 points.
