Carles Cuadrat – Their defensive line was hard to break but I’m very happy with my team

Unlike many evenly contested games, ATK Mohun Bagan took 3 points against Bengaluru FC. A solitary goal by David Williams aided the Mariners to stay on par with the Islanders.

Carles Cuadrat said,

“It has been quite a difficult December, eh? Five games in 21 days. So, we tried to put in some fresh legs, put in some new players, gave opportunity to Udanta, Brown, later I brought on Leon. Some rotation was also done, brought in Bheke after 2 games of rest. So, we tried to match the physicality of the opposition and in that aspect I’m happy because the players fought their way back till the very end. So, yes.

“The small margins matter. The quality Roy and David were possessing was punishing us and they make use of all small chances they get.”

Carles Cuadrat more on his views on tonight’s game,

“ATK Mohun Bagan created better chances. We knew before the match that it would be a great game. It has always been a closely contested game between the two of us. They scored first and they held themselves. We tried to put forward an energetic squad with Udanta, Brown and so on but their defensive line was strong and it was difficult to break them.

“This was quite what our plan was, to play Udanta in the first half and surprise them with Suresh in the second. To be honest, Udanta did all the dirty work, he did his job and bringing on Suresh was a good change as we started creating more chances and Cleiton almost scored.”

Carles Cuadrat is on the positives he had to take from this match,

“There were a lot of positives. It was a competitive match. We know ATK Mohun Bagan are trying to seal a spot in the playoffs and we were closely contesting in today’s match. The players’ attitude were great. They showed their understanding of the game plan, they showed their physicality today. So, I’m very happy with my team.”

Carles Cuadrat signed off.
