Chennaiyin FC have agreed on terms with former Gokulam Kerala defender Deepak Devrani, IFTWC can confirm.

The former ISL champions have started preparations for the next season. They have signed Deepak Devrani from Gokulam Kerala. Deepak Devrani was one of the best Indian centre-back in the last I-League season and played a pivotal role in Gokulam Kerala’s triumph.

“Many ISL clubs chased Deepak after the kind of season he had. But, he has agreed on terms with Chennaiyin FC,” a source close to the development informed IFTWC.

Born in Delhi, Deepak spent his youth in Chandigarh Football academy before joining East Bengal. After failing to get proper playing time for the Kolkata giants, Deepak moved to Pailan Arrows. After that, Bhuri had stints with Sporting Goa, FC Pune City and Mohun Bagan.

The 28-year-old Punjabi defender joined Minerva Punjab in their debut I-League season and was part of the team which conquered the I League. Before joining Gokulam Kerala last season, Deepak had a brilliant spell at TRAU FC, where he also scored a stunning goal. Deepak proved his mettle while playing for the Malabarians and showed his defensive attributes in their title-winning season.

Chennaiyin have started to rebuild their squad after a poor season. Salam Ranjan and Narayan Das have already joined the club from ATK Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, respectively. In addition, Deepak Devrani will add much needed defensive strength as they don’t have any experienced Indian centre-back apart from Salam Ranjan.
