After being the underdogs in the AFC Champions League with a decent set of performances, FC Goa are in full swing preparing for the next edition of the Indian Super League. The management is trying to retain the core team consisting of Indian and foreign contingents; meanwhile, some new faces will surely make their way to the first-team squad.
Amidst the pandemic, the Indian transfer market is already in hot pursuit, with many players moving in and out of the clubs. FC Goa made their first approach by promoting the young prospect Christy Davis, which IFTWC can exclusively confirm.
Christy Davis being a midfielder, is technically well built and sharp. He was part of the FC Goa reserve team for the past two years and made several appearances for the team. The 22-year-old midfielder spotlighted the Goa Pro League, Durand Cup, and I League 2nd Division for the Gaurs. He mostly played as a Number-10 and managed to impress the coach and management with his ability to control and steer the midfield. Christy was one of the coach’s favourite options due to his versatility as an attacking midfielder and central midfielder.
Christy was part a of FC Kerala – a professional football club based out of Kerala, and he also made appearances in their senior squad. He also represented Kerala in the 2018-19 Santhosh Trophy Cup, where the coach made him move upfront from midfield to play as a Centre-forward, foreseeing his goal-scoring abilities.
As his current contract with FC Goa reserves side will be ending in May 2021, the young midfielder was on the hot radar of several other ISL and I League clubs, including Kerala Blasters FC and Gokulam Kerala FC. Kerala United FC had enquired about his availability. But the player was much impressed by FC Goa’s project for him, and he penned down a new deal with the club, thereby getting promoted to the senior team.
FC Goa is one of the few clubs in the Indian Super League that has implemented the game style for both their senior team and development team. Christy Davis is used to the game style of the club and could get quickly glued to Juan Ferrando’s tactics and grab his chances to make it to the first XI.
