Goan Midfielder Keenan Almeida has been roped in by Churchill Brothers for the upcoming season. Keenan was in Hyderabad FC for the 2019-20 season before being loaned to fellow ISL team Mumbai City FC.
The 28 year old has played for many clubs in his career, including FC Goa, Salgaocar, Chruchill Brothers and Chennaiyin FC.
Born in Margao, Keenan played for Salgaocar at the start of his career and also made his debut in the I-League and Goa Professional League for them.
In the Indian Super League, he played for FC Goa in 2015 and 2016. He was sent on loan to Churchill Brothers in the 2016-17 season where he made 17 appearances in the I-League and the team finished at 6th position.
He went on to play for Chennaiyin FC in the following season of ISL. In the last two years, Keenan has gone through two knee surgeries, which kept him off the field. His move to Churchill Brothers comes as a good opportunity for the 28 year old to bounce back and shine on the biggest stage in the country.
Churchill Brothers have won the I-League on two occasions, in 2008-09 and 2012-13. However in recent years they have failed to impress. In the 2019-20 season, Churchill Brothers were 8th on the table before the league was halted and concluded due to the pandemic.
Coach Santiago Varela will be the coach of the Red Machines, as we had revealed. IFTWC had also reported about Clayvin Zuniga signing for Churchill Brothers and now Keenan is also making his way to his local club, and hopefully he can help the team to achieve its past glory.
