#3 Mohammedan S.C.
Founded in 1891, it is one of the oldest and most famous clubs in India. They were the first club to win the CFL in 1934 which they continued till 1938. Multiple trophies against British teams before the Independence earned them a huge fan base in India. They were also the first club to win the Durand Cup in 1940. In the same season, they also captured the Rovers Cup by beating Bangalore Muslims by 1-0 margin. In 1956 the club went on to win the Rovers Cup for the second time and in 1957 they bagged the “Double” by winning both the league and the IFA Shield. They were the first club to win on foreign soil when they lifted the Aga Khan Gold cup in 1960. The club also created unique records when they won the Calcutta League in 1967 without losing a single match. In 1971 they won the IFA Shield without conceding a single goal. They won several other tournaments and cups in the years to follow. They qualified for the I-League 2013-14 by winning the I-league 2nd division in 2013. However, the club relegated back to the 2nd division in 2015. They are now planning to get back into I-League by picking up the bid papers. A historic club with numerous trophies and cups to their name will be a great addition to the national league. This will surely increase the level of the league in case they are able to win the bid and be a part of the league.
