Since the re-establishment of the Indian Arrows, we have seen a number of youngsters with an outstanding performance throughout the season. This time the player that has impressed the Indian football fraternity is Hormipam Ruivah. And Hence arises of the topic, “Destined For Greatness: The Rise of Hormipam Ruivah”.
Hormipam Ruivah hails from Somdal village in the Ukhrul district, Manipur. Growing up in the midst of a football-crazy district, Hormipam like most of the young boys fell in love with the beautiful game. He has been playing football since his childhood days. In 2017 he took a major step to become a professional footballer by joining the Sports Authority of India academy in Imphal.
A year later Minerva Punjab came to Imphal searching for new talent. Hormipam wanting to climb up the ladder in his footballing career joined the trail and caught the eyes of the scouts as he was eventually signed by the Punjab-based club. In his first season with Minerva Punjab, he played an instrumental role and helped the club win the Hero Elite League as he was at the heart of the defense that kept the most clean sheets in the entire tournament.
After a fine season, he was called up by the Indian U-18 side. Wherein He went on to win India maiden SAFF U-18 Championship in Nepal. After this impressive campaign, he joined Indian Arrows on loan from Punjab FC in November 2019. He had a debut to remember for a very long time as he bagged the Man Of The Match Award against the Newly crowned Durand cup Champion Gokulam Kerala.
Hormipam was in the thick of things at Indian Arrow all throughout the season and has missed only two match which was against his parent club due to fear clause impose by Punjab FC.
It was not going to be an easy task playing as a Center Back and coming up against the well build foreign strikers but against all odds the 19 years old stood strong and has boasted some super defensive stats, averaging 20 challenges, 4 tackle, 9 interception and 11 ball recoveries every game! He even registered 74% passing accuracy from 566 passes. Not just that, but with 75% successful dribble from 24 dribbles prove how much of a complete defender he is.
Hormipam is a shy-spoken person, but he let his talking do on the pitch a peculiarity that makes a great player.
For a blossoming player like him, the sky is really the limit and if he keeps his feet on the ground and grooms properly, this young lad will definitely be a big asset for the National Team in the near future.
The future is very dazzling for this young Tangkhul lad.
