IFTWC have exclusively learned that FC Goa are interested in signing Chico from Fuenlabrada in the second division of Spanish football. His contract with Fuenlabrada runs out this summer and he will become a free agent in July 2020.
Chico plays as a center back and stands 6’2″ ft tall. He has the experience of playing in the English Premier League with Swansea City FC. Apart from Swansea, he has appeared for Almería, Mallorca and Granada in La Liga, Genoa in Serie A, and Rubin Kazan in Russia. Not to forget that he also had a small stint with FC Barcelona B. He played in Qatar for 3 years with Lekhwiya (now known as Al-Duhail). This will be an added advantage for FC Goa if they manage to sign him as they are going to play in the AFC Champions League.
Mourtada Fall has joined Mumbai City FC and Carlos Peña has retired from professional football. Along with Mourtada Fall, Mandar has also penned a deal with Mumbai City FC. It will be a big headache for Juan Fernando to build a strong defensive lineup, and he will have a lot of work to do this summer to make them contenders for the ISL and do well in the AFC Champions League.
With his experience, Chico can definitely make a huge difference in FC Goa’s defensive unit. Juan Fernando, who is also from Spain, is interested in signing Chico. Clubs from Greece and Cyprus have also shown interest in signing the Spanish centre back but FC Goa can be the more lucrative destination for Chico. His agent is also the one who helped bring Enrique Esqueda to East Bengal last summer.
