The Most Valuable Player of the Indian Super League season 6, Hugo Boumous was hands down, one of the most prized asset in FC Goa’s roster. The stalwart was in phenomenal form as he scored 11 goals and assisted 10 more. A beast in the midfield Hugo was undoubtedly one of the finest Gaurs this season.
Back in 2018, under the then coach Sergio Lobera, who galvanized the Frenchman’s move to the Indian Super League, Boumous fitted in the team flawlessly. His undisputed performances helped him yearn a repute that made him a fan favourite pretty soon. The Club offered him a contract until 2023, which was agreed on terms by both the parties. After the Goan club decided to part ways with Lobera, we could see an endless queue of the foreign recruits moving out elsewhere, with Mumbai City FC being the most favourite destination.
Earlier this evening, Hugo Boumous addressed his fans with a post on Instagram that announced his departure from the Goan outfit. Boumous expressed his gratitude towards the fans also commenting about how his journey was for the past couple of years, with the team and the management.
Hugo Boumous on Instagram:
As stupefying as it was, FC Goa took no longer to release their statement which clearly stated that Hugo Boumous is still contracted with the club. Even the management was keeping it no secret about their strong interest in the player. They were vocal enough to convey their message out in bold captions pointing towards the fact that Boumous was not up for sale either.
The contradicting statements from both the parties has definitely created some hullabaloo in the Indian football fraternity. It would be interesting to see how things pan out for FC Goa as they embark upon their maiden, in fact India’s maiden AFC Champions League group stage voyage!
