FC Goa sign former Atletico Madrid (B) winger Jorge Ortiz Mendoza – OFFICIAL

FC Goa are picking up pace in the ongoing transfer window as they announce the signing of Jorge Ortiz Mendoza

Jorge Ortez Mendoza

The 28 year old winger becomes Juan Ferrando’s second foreign recruit after Igor Angulo as he made his move to the Goa based club. After plying his trade with the Segunda division B side, CD Atlético Baleares in the last season, Jorge procured a contract with the Gaurs.

The Getafe graduate, stands 5 feet 9 inches tall and predominantly plays at the Right wing. FC Goa had the likes of Jackichand Singh dominating the Right wing in the last season. With Jacki reportedly moving on to Jamshedpur, FC Goa secured Redeem Tlang’s signatures on the agreement as he moved in from Northeast United FC.

It would be riveting to see such a tough competition for the spot in the playing eleven for this particular position as Makan Chothe was also brought in by the club giving more depth to the squad. As the team will be pulling up its socks to take on the Asian giants later on in the year, the management is leaving no stone unturned to make sure they enter the battlefield well composed.

Speaking about the Spaniard, Jorge Ortiz Mendoza is also well versed in operating on the opposite wing. He has a proven track record of playing at both the wings thus giving the Gaffer a pretty solid name for the Left wing spot.

FC Goa’s Director of Football, Ravi Puskur opined on Jorge’s appointment by quoting, “We’re delighted to bring Jorge on board for the next two seasons. Jorge very much represents the kind of talent we want to be bringing to FC Goa, where players are stepping into the peak years of their careers.”

A delighted Jorge Ortiz expressed his thoughts by adding, “I’m really happy and eager to start and to meet my new teammates. The league is very competitive and this is a brilliant club. I have seen games of FC Goa play and found them to be playing at a very high level. I spoke to the coach, and other officials and I had no doubt that this was the place I would like to commit my future to.”

It’d be quite engrossing to watch FC Goa shape up under their new coach. Undoubtedly, the team will be raring to take up the pitch once again, this time to defend their Shield!
