Sadaoui’s goal propels FC Goa to be victorious against the Red & Gold Brigade

-

FC Goa clinched a much-needed victory after a challenging five-game winless streak, narrowly defeating the Red & Gold Brigade 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 on Wednesday.

This crucial win propels the Gaurs to 32 points, positioning them just three points behind the league leaders, Odisha FC, who have accumulated 35 points. Notably, the Gaurs hold a game in hand with 17 matches played compared to Odisha’s 18. In contrast, East Bengal finds themselves trailing at 18 points, lagging behind Bengaluru FC by three points, with both teams having played an equal number of games (18).

Star striker Noah Sadaoui played a pivotal role in Goa’s triumph, showcasing a timely return to form. Under the guidance of coach Manolo Marquez, the side displayed a commendable performance, breaking through the East Bengal FC defense with finesse. They dominated possession with 57.2% and outshot their opponents by a significant margin, registering 17 shots compared to East Bengal’s 4. Additionally, the Gaurs managed to maintain their attacking threat, recording more shots on target with 7 compared to East Bengal FC’s solitary attempt on goal.

Noah Sadaoui showcased his goal-scoring prowess by breaking the deadlock in the 42nd minute, seizing the opportunity created by Goa’s relentless attacking efforts. Throughout the match, Sadaoui, alongside his teammate Carlos Martinez, orchestrated numerous goal-scoring opportunities, keeping the Red & Gold brigade goalkeeper Prabsukhan Singh Gill under constant pressure.

Martinez’s precise through ball in the 14th minute set up a golden chance for Noah, but his shot was thwarted by Gill’s timely intervention. Similarly, Noah reciprocated by setting up Martinez for a scoring opportunity, yet the Spaniard’s attempt narrowly missed the target.

As FC Goa maintained their attacking momentum, East Bengal found themselves increasingly under pressure, struggling to contain their opponent’s relentless assaults. Mohammed Yasir played a pivotal role in setting up Noah’s decisive goal, underscoring his promising form with consecutive impressive performances.

Noah’s clinical finish came from a narrow-angle on the inside channel of the left flank, highlighting his composure and precision in front of goal. Despite East Bengal FC’s efforts to mount a comeback, they faltered against Goa’s disciplined defense, failing to pose a significant threat throughout both halves of the game. Manolo Marquez’s side’s cohesive defensive display effectively nullified East Bengal FC’s attacking threats, securing their victory and consolidating their position in the Indian Super League standings.

The defeat significantly affected East Bengal’s aspirations of clinching a playoff spot this season, further exacerbating their challenges in finding cohesion and coordination on the field. Struggling to synchronize their gameplay, the side from Kolkata faces an uphill battle to secure a playoff berth amidst their recent setbacks.

In contrast, FC Goa’s triumph serves as a pivotal moment in their campaign, bolstering their hopes of ascending towards the top of the league table. The victory injects a renewed sense of confidence and determination into FC Goa’s squad as they navigate through the remaining fixtures of the season.

Eager to capitalize on their recent victory, FC Goa will seek to continue their winning streak and consolidate their position in the league standings. On the other hand, East Bengal FC will seek redemption in the highly anticipated Kolkata Derby scheduled for March 10. Determined to bounce back from their recent defeat, East Bengal FC will strive to deliver a commanding performance and reignite their pursuit of success in the Indian Super League.
