ATK Mohun Bagan has completed the signing of Florentin Pogba from Ligue 2 club FC Sochaux. The defender’s salary will be around 2.5 crores at Bagan.
Notably, Paul Pogba’s older brother is Florentin. The 31-year-old began his career with CS Sedan in the French second tier, first playing for their junior team before making 85 appearances for the senior squad. Pogba joined AS Saint-Etienne in the Ligue 1 in 2012 for a transfer fee of €500K. He spent five seasons at the club, making over 90 appearances for them before signing for Gencerbirligi Ankara in Turkey.
Pogba was set to join Elche in Spain but the agreement fell through when Pogba’s registration problems prevented him from joining them. After making 26 appearances for the American side, Florentin signed with FC Sochaux in Ligue 2 and returned to France. The defender has played more than 60 times for the team over the past two seasons establishing himself as a regular starter. Despite finishing fifth in the league this year, Florentin’s team was unable to advance to the Ligue-1 after losing on penalties in the playoffs.
While playing with Atlanta United, the Guinean won the US Open Cup and Campeones Cup. He also played in three iterations of the Europa League while playing for Saint-Etienne. Florentin has been capped 31 times by the Guinea National Team, with six of those times seeing him serve as captain. He was also selected for the most recent AFCON competition. However, an injury forced the defender to withdraw. He was also a member of the France U20 team, but he ultimately chose to represent Guinea.
Florentin will be a dominating force at the back for ATK Mohun Bagan as he boasts of remarkable physical strength. The defender is also well known for his “stampeding runs” from the back that intimidates opponents.
After acquiring Brendan Hamill from the A-League and now Florentin Pogba, ATK Mohun Bagan has pulled off yet another impressive coup in the transfer market. Furthermore, they have also announced the signings of Asish Rai, Lalrinliana Hnamte, and Ashique Kurnuiyan. The management is assembling a strong team that can contend for titles on both the national and Asian levels.
