After having Asamoah Gyan as their marquee signing in 2019, it looks like Northeast United might bring in another one this year, in the form of Brazilian Filipe Luis.
IFTWC can exclusively report that Northeast United manager, Gerard Nus, wants Filipe Luis at the club, and it is yet to be seen what decision is taken by the club.
Luis has had a very decorated career until now. With Atletico Madrid he has won the La Liga once in 2013-14, UEFA Europa League twice in 2011-12 and 2017-18, UEFA Super Cup in 2012 and 2018 and the Copa Del Rey in 2012-13. They also reached the Champions League final twice, failing to win it on both occasions.
With Chelsea, he won the Premier League and FA Cup in 2014-15 under Jose Mourinho. He signed for Flamengo after leaving Atletico Madrid in 2019. He has played against some of the best players in the world like Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Laliga.
Filipe Luis has played for Brazil national team 44 times and has won Copa America as well as FIFA confederation Cup. He plays as a left back and has had healthy competition with Marcelo for a spot in the National Team.
“Gerard Nus wants to bring Filipe Luis to Northeast United. They are in talks. But the management hasn’t taken the final decision yet.”, quoted the source.
Northeast United have retained Gallego and have roped in Khassa Camara, Luis Machado and Benjamin Lambot for the upcoming season. They are in talks with a Spanish striker as well. If Northeast United manage to sign Filipe Luis, then it will be one of biggest signing in the history of ISL.
