Northeast United showed their character in a closely contested game at the GMC Stadium. The highlanders were trailing 2-0 at the half time but they came back strongly in the second half to grab a late equalizer.

Kerala Blasters lost their momentum in the second half which costed them 2 points. Kibu Vicuna was upset with the way his side played in the second half. Kibu said,

“We have to think about the first half and second half. Because I think in the first half we played really well, we had the ball and we controlled the match. But after their first goal, the match was very open and we don’t like matches being open. I think we are on the way, but we are upset that we lost 2 points today.”

Sergio Cidoncha played in a more advanced position against Northeast United. He also scored a goal from the set piece. Kerala’s poster boy, Sahal Abdul Samad wasn’t included in the squad. When asked about Sahal’s omission from the squad, Kibu said that Sahal wasn’t fit enough to play in the starting eleven.

“Sergio Cidoncha is playing really well. He scored a goal and he participated very well in the match. Sahal was not ready physically to play this match. Hopefully he will be ready for the next games.”

Northeast United dominated the second half and rattled the net twice. Kibu Vicuna was disappointed that his team didn’t keep the ball in the second half. Kibu elaborated,

“We would have liked to have more possession of the ball in the second half. But we were little bit overconfident in the beginning of the second half, we didn’t like it. We talked in the half time that we have to run a lot and keep the possession. But we couldn’t. They played well and we couldn’t play similar to how we played in the first half and that’s why we have only one point”, Kibu concluded.
