ATK Mohun Bagan have signed Mumbai City FC midfielder Hugo Boumous for an Indian transfer record fee of 280,000 US Dollars, IFTWC can confirm. The deal for the 25-year-old comes a year after Mumbai City FC paid roughly 1.7 crores to Goa for securing Boumous’s signature.
The Frenchman had an existing contract till 2022 with The Islanders but ATK Mohun Bagan have paid out his transfer fee to secure his signature. Over the years, Hugo Boumous has been one of the best midfielders in the ISL. The last four seasons in the ISL has seen him score 19 times and record 24 assists.
Mumbai spent a lot to sign him last year, so selling him to their direct rival surely comes as a shock. They have now lost two of their best players in Amrinder Singh and Hugo Boumous to ATK Mohun Bagan.
ATK Mohun Bagan are currently in the midst of a massive spending spree. Liston Colaco was earlier signed from Hyderabad FC for a record transfer fee. The club also announced the acquisition of Finland’s Euro 2020 player Joni Kauko last month. Following last season’s disappointment in winning the shield and the trophy, ATK Mohun Bagan is surely striving for excellence this year.
