Hero Indian Super League’s seventh edition is about to witness the dusk and a name from FC Goa is currently leading the table of most assists in the league. It’s non-other than Alberto Noguera.
The former Atletico de Madrid midfielder, who also made numerous appearances for various Spanish clubs, is plying his trade in India for the very first time but is playing an influencing role in the midfield for the Gaurs.
“It was a new opportunity for me to know the culture and the country, I thought when I signed for FC Goa. I am happy that I took this decision that time in pandemic situation.“
“This (COVID-19) situation is not normal. It’s hard to stay in bio-bubble. Here, you think all the time about only football,” said Noguera.
The Spaniard has made 17 appearances so far and assisted 7 times and scored once too, clocking 1256 minutes. Speaking about the performance till now Noguera stated,
“I didn’t have any personal goals, but for me, the most important thing is the team and we are focusing on upcoming games. It’s great to be with players like Edu, Ortiz, Angulo and others because I knew them even before I came to Goa, which makes it easier to give my best on the field.“
As soon as the Indian Super League ends, FC Goa will have the campaign of AFC Champions League and will compete against the best teams from Asia like Persepolis, Al-Rayyan and others. The 31-year-old is confident to take up the challenge of representing the club at the continental level.
“It’s very important competition for us because we don’t only represent the club but also we represent the country. Our success will be the success of the league so we will give our 100% so that you (fans) can be proud of us,” Noguera told IFTWC.
Currently, FC Goa are 11 games unbeaten and looking quite stronger standing 4th in the table with 27 points alongside Hyderabad FC and NorthEast United FC. With two matches remaining in hand, the team should show their attitude and win on the field to qualify for the playoffs.
“From the last couple of games, we are trying our best but in some matches due to some reasons, we can’t get three points. We are happy because we are unbeaten, but upcoming both the games are very important for us.“
“Fans are the big part of the game, it’s very tough without them. I hope this situation will change soon and we can enjoy it with them next season because they are a big part of our success too,” Noguera concluded.
