It all started when 9 I League clubs boycotted Super Cup. In the 4 qualifiers, Indian Arrows were the only I League club which took part in Super Cup. Minerva Punjab, Gokulam Kerala and Aizwal FC boycotted match against FC Pune City, Delhi Dynamos and Chennaiyin FC respectively. Kerala Blasters were knocked out by Indian Arrows.

But now I League clubs have registered squads for round of 16 of Super Cup as AIFF has ensured them a meeting in April.

the three I-League clubs who were scheduled to play in the qualifiers failed to turn up on the matchdays, handing their opponents walk-over victories in the process. However, after Patel’s assurance, the clubs wanted the tournament to start afresh from the qualifiers, but, the AIFF have turned down that request.

After the controversy, Quess East Bengal FC finally registered thier main squad. Kolkata gaints Mohun Bagan decided not to register squad for Super Cup. Main round of fixtures to start from 29th February when Mumbai City FC lock horns with Chennaiyin FC
