Real Kashmir FC are set to sign defender Fran Gonzalez for the upcoming edition of the I-League. The Snow Leopards will look to strengthen their defense with the signing of this experienced Spaniard who has played and tasted success on Indian soil.

The 32-year old jugador started his journey with UD Almeria B, going on to play for other Spanish sides such as Deportivo B, Cordova B and Real Zaragoza B. He has also enjoyed short stints at clubs hailing from Poland and Hong Kong.

Gonzalez was announced as a player for Mohun Bagan in the I-League in 2019. He had a successful run with the Mariners, scoring 10 goals to become the second-highest goal scorer of the season (2019-20), also winning the league that year.

This impressive performance was much appreciated and the defensive midfielder was signed by Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC in the month of October last year, to play for the Blues in the 2020-21 season.

2020-21 Season and Gonzalez’s Style of Play

In the 2020-21 season Fran played 18 games. However, his goal scoring proficiency was not the same as he had only 1 goal and zero assists to his name and the Bengaluru side who had a rather poor ISL campaign, finishing 7th in the standings, released him in the month of March this year.

The Srinagar based club are signing a defensive midfielder (also centre-back), who put on quite a display and form for the Mariners, where he was known for having a knack for scoring goals.

Although his most recent spell under Bengaluru FC did not see his name on the scoresheet except once, Gonzalez made 13 tackles, 13 interceptions, 15 blocks and 46 clearances. He was booked twice last season out of the 18 matches that he played.

Fran Gonzalez will be going back to playing for an I-League team as a Real Kashmir player under head coach David Robertson.
