Rajasthan United FC has completed the signing of Marcelinho, IFTWC can confirm. The midfielder who last played in Greece for Rodos has terminated his contract with the club and will feature for the I-League debutants in the upcoming season.
Marcelinho joined Delhi Dynamos FC in 2016 and has since established himself as a popular name in Indian football. The Brazilian won the Golden Boot in his very first season in India after scoring nine goals and assisting six. He signed with Pune next season, where he replicated his previous success, netting 16 goals and providing 13 assists during his two seasons with the club.
Marcelinho extended his stay in India with Hyderabad, as he scored seven goals and provided two assists. Odisha FC signed him last season, but the 34-year-old suffered a difficult few months before being taken on loan by ATK Mohun Bagan in the winter transfer window. Marcelinho scored twice during his brief stint with the Kolkata club.
However, the midfielder failed to find any suitors from the ISL in the summer, which gave Rajasthan United the opportunity to acquire him. Having spent five seasons in the Indian Super League, the midfielder will now begin a new chapter in the I-League with Rajasthan United FC.
Rajasthan made history a month back when they won the second division of the I-League and thus gained promotion to the I-League. Rajasthan United FC will become the first club from the state to ever play in the league. Under Vikrant Sharma’s leadership, the club is building a competitive squad that is ready for the tournament. The club had also recently announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Diego Bielkiewicz.
