The 27-year-old Brazilian winger Sergio Barboza is in advanced talks with I-League club TRAU FC, sources have told IFTWC.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Barboza played for the renowned Brazilian club Flamengo Under-20. Later, he represented numerous clubs in Brazil, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Laos before joining Punjab FC in 2019.
Barboza has been the key man in attack at Punjab FC where he made his debut against Churchill Brother. In his third appearance against Chennai City FC, he scored his first astonishing I-League goal. He also had a brace against Aizawl last season. Being a left-winger, he played his best role in creating more chances and putting crosses into the box from the wings. In a total of 15 matches played for Punjab FC, he scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists. Barboza has been a free agent since his contract got expired.
TRAU FC has recently completed the signing of the Tajikistani striker Komron Tursunov who formerly played for Mohun Bagan. Surprisingly, in talks with Barboza, the club has mentioned their concern about his height. The addition of Barboza will be crucial as it will help to fasten up the attacking line for more good results.
