Defending champions India takes on Tajikistan in its first match on the opening day of the Intercontinental Cup, while Syria and DPR Korea are the other two participating teams.

Stimac had summoned a list of 35 players for the preparatory camp in Mumbai which had kicked-off in Mumbai on June 25.With the camp coming to an end,10 players were released including Vishal Kaith, Nishu Kumar, Salam Ranjan Singh, Sarthak Golui, Anwar Ali, Raynier Fernandes, Michael Soosairaj, Nikhil Poojary, Jackichand Singh, and Balwant Singh, while Ashique Kuruniyan was earlier released from the camp and replaced by Jerry Lalrinzuana.

Few new names were included in the list, one of them is 18 year old young center back narender Gahlot, who recently joined Jamshedpur FC from Indian Arrows.Besides,Mandar Rao Desai gets into the national team after a long time. The list will be reduced to 23 members prior to the kick off of the competition.

Igor Stimach who managed Croatia to qualify for the 2014 FIFA WC said on the official AIFF website,””We are satisfied with the execution of work for the past ten days. The players worked really hard, and we are all very enthusiastic about our upcoming games. Once again, I will use the upcoming games in the tournament to have a look at all the players in action. Each one of them deserve the chance.”

Exclusion of players like Raynier Fernandes and Michael Soosairaj is a surprise because Soosairaj has shown good form since last season and Raynier played well in Thailand in India’s Kings Cup campaign. Jobby Justin, who missed the flight to the national team earlier was included in the squad.
