Northeast United have announced the appointment of former Real Madrid player, Robert Jarni as Head Coach.

After Eelco Schattorie left the club and joined Kerala Blasters, Northeast United were finding his replacement since more than a month but now they have appointed experienced Robert Jarni.

During his playing days, Jarni played for Real Betis, Real Madrid, Juventus, Coventry City, Las Palmas, Panathinaikos, Torino, Bari and Hajduk Split. He used to play as a left wingback. He represented Croatia national team for more than 12 years. He also represented them in 1998 and 2002 World Cup. In 1998 World Cup, they won Bronze medal. He represented Yugoslavia in 1990 World Cup.

He started his coaching career Hajduk Split. They finished 5th in that season. On 4 August 2010, Jarni was appointed new manager at Istra 1961. He resigned from the managerial post on 19 September 2010, after recording two draws and four defeats in six league matches in charge of the club. In 2012, he took charge of Hajduk’s U-19 team. In July 2013 his contract with Hajduk was mutually terminated.

Then he had stints with Sarajevo, Pécs and Puskás. He was coach of Croatia U19 team for 2 years. He also managed Croatia U20 team.

Northeast United haven’t yet announced signing of any foreign player. They have signed some young talented Indian players. It will be interesting to see how the highlanders approach towards the remaining transfer window.
