He has bagged 6 goals and 1 assist in his maiden ISL season. The number of goal contributions, however, do not reflect the importance of this man for FC Goa. Ortiz has been a key player with his pace, trickery and work ethic on both sides of the field. FC Goa’s coach Juan Ferrando has described Ortiz has a complete player and has also shown admiration for his high pressing.
Jorge Ortiz always possess a problem for opposing teams because of his pace and his ability to run in behind. He has also shown that he is adept at holding the ball, playing deft touches with players around him and beating defenders on the half turn. Ortiz also has an eye for goal registering the most number of shots on target (31) by a player this season. Ortiz’s guile and intelligence on the left wing has helped full back Saviour Gama move forward and show his attacking prowess. His intelligence in occupying space and defenders has enabled the golden boot winner Igor Angulo to play with freedom and be the number 9, FC Goa wants him to be. Through his scintillating performances, one game after another, Ortiz had emerged as the Dark Horse for the Golden Ball this season. Checking all the boxes needed for a quality player, Jorge Ortiz has been one of the best players this season and FC Goa and Indian football fans should hope that he stays on.
