Bhubhaneshwar: Odisha FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant played out an intense 1-1 draw in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 clash at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Both sides showed moments of quality, but neither could secure the win, as goals from Hugo Boumous and Manvir Singh defined the evening.
The match started with Odisha showing intent early on, and it didn’t take long for them to find the breakthrough. In the 4th minute, Odisha took advantage of an indirect free-kick inside the box. Hugo Boumous latched onto a well-placed ball from Jahouh, and his deflected shot off Manvir Singh found the back of the net, giving Odisha the early 1-0 lead.
Mohun Bagan, however, responded strongly. They grew into the game and had their chances, with shots from Petratos and Liston Colaco testing Odisha goalkeeper Amrinder Singh. Finally, in the 36th minute, the Mariners equalized. A well-delivered corner from Petratos found Manvir Singh, who powered a header past Amrinder. Despite the goalkeeper’s effort to save, the ball ricocheted off the woodwork and into the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
Both teams continued to battle for dominance, but the first half ended with the score unchanged. At halftime, the game was finely poised, with both sides looking capable of securing a win.The second half saw Odisha push hard for a winner, but Mohun Bagan’s defense, led by Subhasish Bose and keeper Vishal Kaith, stood firm.
Mohun Bagan had their own chances as well, with shots from Petratos and substitute Cummings threatening to put them ahead. Odisha, however, came close in the 59th minute when Puitea’s long-range effort rattled the crossbar, nearly giving the home side the lead.As the game wore on, the tempo slowed, with fatigue setting in on both sides.
In the final minutes, Odisha continued to search for a winner, but Mohun Bagan held their ground. Asish Rai picked up a late yellow card for a foul, but Odisha couldn’t make the resulting free-kick count.The final whistle blew after six minutes of added time, and both sides had to settle for a point.
Mohun Bagan remains in second place on the table with 14 points, three behind Bengaluru FC, who have played a game more. Odisha FC, meanwhile, stays in ninth place with nine points from eight games.Despite the draw, Odisha FC can take some pride in their resilient performance at home, while Mohun Bagan will feel they missed an opportunity to go top of the table.
