ATK Mohun Bagan FC have officially completed the signing of Uruguayan midfielder Federico Gallego, IFTWC can exclusively confirm the news.
After signing Serbian defender Slavko Damjanovic earlier this week, the Mariners have now completed the signing of 32-year-old Uruguayan attacking midfielder Federico Gallego. Both of them have prior experience in the Hero Indian Super League.
While Slavko played for Chennaiyin FC in the 2021/22 season, Gallego has been a regular in the Hero ISL since signing for NorthEast United FC in the 2018/19 season.
In the four Indian Super League seasons that Federico Gallego has played in, he has managed to score a total of 9 goals and also notched up 12 assists out of the 47 matches he took part.
The Uruguayan midfield maestro has experience of playing a key figure during his stint with the Highlanders as he helped his former club get to the ISL playoffs on two different occasions, the first was during his initial season (18/19 season), while the second was in the 20/21 season.
Federico Gallego has also had stints in his Native Uruguay most notably playing for Uruguayan clubs such as Sud America, Boston River, and Liverpool FC.
There was also a short time when he played in Guatemala and also in Argentina during a loan stint with Argentinos Juniors, a well-known club in South America.
There is no doubt that Federico Gallego has all the qualities that are required to help ATK Mohun Bagan get back to their Indian Super League hopes and the ISL League Shield-winning aspirations.
In Gallego, ATK Mohun Bagan has signed a player who can essentially replace their long-term injured Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko who is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
Although it has to be noted that Fede Gallego is also a very injury-prone player as seen from his past experience during his stint with the Highlanders. But if he can stay fit for the most part in the remainder of the season, then he can deliver his best to help the team finish as the table toppers.
