Brandon Fernandes is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the country, earning praise not only from India but also from scouts around the globe. Hailing from Goa, he began his footballing journey at the age of 6, progressing through the ranks of Fransa-Pax, and later joining Velsao Pale Sports Club, Goa United Football Association, and Salgaocar.

Brandon was later enrolled in the ASD Football Academy in South Africa, where he caught the attention of multiple scouts across Europe, earning trial calls from English clubs Leicester City, Reading, and Sunderland. However, these trials didn’t materialize into contracts, leading him to play for ASD Cape Town in the third tier of the South African league.

His entry into Indian football came through Sporting Goa in 2015, before making his debut in the top division league of the country, the Indian Super League, with Mumbai City FC, after being selected in the draft.

Brandon made his debut in the ISL against Delhi Dynamos as a substitute. Unfortunately, he was ruled out of the season after the next game. He then returned to the I-League to play for Mohun Bagan on loan before moving to Churchill Brothers the following season, where he finally found his rhythm.

His career took a significant turn when he joined FC Goa in the 2017-18 season, propelling him into the limelight of Indian football. Becoming an integral part of the squad, he earned the reputation of being one of the best midfielders in the nation. He represented Goa in 130 games, scoring 17 goals and providing 31 assists.

His international career began in 2019, and he has since played 22 games for the country.

Brandon’s return to his debut Indian Super League side will be warmly welcomed. With the City Group at the helm and aspirations to clinch the ISL title, Mumbai City could be eyeing a significant stride forward in the upcoming season with the addition of players like Brandon Fernandes to their roster.
