Chennaiyin FC have roped in winger Alexander Romario Jesuraj and midfielder Sourav Das on a pre-contract agreement for the next season, IFTWC can confirm.
Alexander Romario Jesuraj (FC Goa)
Alexander Jesuraj made his professional debut with Chennai City FC in the 2017-18 I-League and was signed by FC Goa after a successful 2018-19 season where he won the trophy with the southerners. He was then sent out on loan to Mohun Bagan AC for the 2019-20 season and there he won his second consecutive I-League trophy. Jesuraj made his ISL debut in the 2020-21 season and featured prominently for the Gaurs. Later, he represented them in the AFC Champions League too.
Over the two seasons with the Gaurs, Romario has appeared in 30 matches and contributed 7 goals (3 goals, 4 assists) during his stay at the club. His addition to the Chennaiyin FC’s ranks will boost the Marina Machans’ attack which has had difficulty scoring goals (17 goals – the fewest in the league) this season. With Lallianzuala Chhangte’s departure to Mumbai City FC, there has been a void on the right-wing position which Romario will look to make his own and help the team score more goals. Romario has signed a multi-year deal with the club and is expected to earn a high salary.
Sourav Das (SC East Bengal)
A product of the famed TATA Football Academy, Sourav Das moved to I-League side Mohun Bagan AC back in 2016. After very limited game time in his first two seasons with the Mariners, the 2018-19 season turned out to be Sourav’s breakthrough season in Indian football as he helped the Green and Maroons win the Calcutta Football League, besides also making 11 appearances for the club in the I-League. In the 2019-20 ISL season the midfielder made seven appearances for Mumbai City FC.
He joined SC East Bengal during the January transfer window of Hero ISL 2020-21 and since then had emerged to be a pivotal player in the midfield for the club. Known for his work rate and defensive ability, Das can also become a bridge between defense and attack at times by carrying the ball or playing long accurate passes. His signing will increase the options in Chennaiyin FC’s midfield department. Sourav has also signed a multi-year deal with a club like Romario, and he will be a key player for the team during the next couple of seasons.
