Chennaiyin FC have completed the signing of Irfan Yadwad, IFTWC can confirm. Irfan Yadwad has inked a three-year-deal with the Marina Machans after his move from FC Bengaluru United on a free transfer.
Yadwad has attracted a lot of interest from scouts and supporters with his impressive performances for FC Bengaluru United in the Bengaluru Super Level Division and the I-League Second Division last season.
“Kerala Blasters were interested in signing him, but the deal never advanced, or were the Blasters close to securing his signature contrary to the reports,” a source close to the development informed IFTWC.
His performances made him one of the hottest prospect in the market this season. And Chennaiyin FC wasted no time to hand the 22-year-old promising youngster a three year contract at the club.
Hailing from a small village in the southern part of the football-loving state of Goa, the Irfan started his career with the Sporting Club de Goa U18 side. He has also played for Panjim in Goa State League in the 21/22 season.
Upon impressing there he was then signed by the I-League 2nd division side Bengaluru United FC ahead of their 22/23 season and since then he has been a menace for the team in all competitions.
Irfan Yadwad has experienced nothing short of a meteoric rise to fame. He has constantly displayed his lethal finishing skills during the 2022–23 season, becoming a prolific goal scorer.
A number of major teams had taken notice of his extraordinary goal-scoring record of 36 goals in a single season, which speaks volumes about his enormous potential.
Irfan Yadwad contributed significantly to FC Bengaluru United’s success while he was part of the team. He scored an incredible 15 goals in 18 games, which made him the BDFA Super Division’s top scorer and showed that he could consistently hit the back of the net.
He also significantly contributed to FC Bengaluru United winning the Stafford Cup, by scoring eight goals in the process. The talented young striker continued to score goals. Yadwad maintained his remarkable play in the I-League second tier and finished the league campaign with an impressive 13 goals from just 11 games.
It is anticipated that the inclusion of this youthful phenom in the Chennaiyin FC squad would strengthen their offensive capabilities and provide them a much-needed advantage in the final third. With the likes of Vincy, and Ninthoi in the mix the team will have some really good options to consider in the flanks.
The Marina Machans have already lost their captain Anirudh Thapa who has signed for Mohun Bagan. With the return of experience campaigner Owen Coyle, Chennaiyin FC will undergo a rebuild for the future with young players in the fray and Irfan is likely to be a part of that, without a doubt.
