FC Goa have started early to get the signature of necessary targets for next season, where the promising goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh is the first.

The ISL 2021-22 season turned out to be disastrous after coronavirus hit the Gaurs camp multiple times. Before the outbreak, their Head Coach Juan Ferrando opted to join ATK Mohun Bagan after being in charge of the team for the initial matches of the season.

Looking at the goalkeeping department of the Gaurs, Dheeraj Singh, the standout performer at the AFC Champions League, miserably conceded 27 goals in his 15 appearances. On the other hand, the second-choice custodian Naveen Kumar played 4 matches & conceded 4 goals as well. The poor showing in the defensive third culminated in many points lost for the side.

Arshdeep Singh

Looking at the performances, indeed, FC Goa needed a promising option. They have now grabbed Arshdeep Singh, who signs a pre-contract to don the jersey from next season.

The 24-year old shot-stopper started with Minerva Punjab FC, where he made 29 appearances and showcased the talent he got. Out of 29 games, he represented the club from the north in 4 AFC Cup matches too.

In 2019, Odisha FC signed him on a three-year contract that will end this summer. Arshdeep caught the eyes of many since then, where he went on to feature 18 times in the 2020-21 season, making 64 saves.

To fit in the books of FC Goa, Arshdeep surely ticks most of the boxes. He is a good shot-stopper, decent with his feet, while also cleanly clearing the ball in crucial situations.

With Arshdeep coming in & Naveen Kumar’s contract ending, will Naveen be moving out to a new club, or the club will choose to keep him, remains to be seen. For now, a new goalkeeper is sealed; FC Goa will move on to the next!
