FC Goa are all set to sign Spanish Forward Carlos Martínez, IFTWC can confirm!
“FC Goa had plenty of good options on the table, including multiple top scorers from Segunda & Primera division. FC Andorra, gained promotion from Primera to Segunda last year, 2021-22. So Goa too has seen the best of Carlos in the past even though his age might raise eyebrows,” said a source.
“Head coach Manolo Marquez came up with specific recommendations about how he wants to fill the striking position and he found Carlos as a good fit,” the source close to the development informed us.
The 36-year-old has been plying his trade with FC Andorra in La Liga 2, the second tier of Spanish Football. Standing at 6 feet, the aerial balls and headers are some of Carlos’ biggest strengths. Despite his age, Martinez has managed to score 9 goals in the 35 La Liga games this season.
Also, he isn’t new to Asian football as he has previously had a short stint in the Japanese second tier with Tokyo Verdy. But, the stats weren’t that convincing as he scored only 2 goals in 29 appearances in the league.
After leaving Japan, Martinez signed for Hercules FC during the 18/19 season. Following a season with them, he signed for FC Andorra in the middle of the 19/20 season. Ever since then, he plays for them.
Coming up from the ranks of FC Badalona in 2005, Carlos went on to represent several Spanish clubs like Cerdanyola FC, Sant Celoni CF, UE Rubi, Terrassa FC, UE Olot, Gramenet B side, and the senior team over the years and up until 2015.
However, the best highlight of his career will probably be his stint with the Villarreal FC ‘B’ side. He signed for the La Liga club’s B side during the 15/16 season and played there for two years.
In all total, Martinez has 8 assists and scored 123 goals in 357 professional career appearances. 95 of those goals were scored in the Segunda División B – Grupo III – the third division of football in Spain.
Meanwhile, FC Goa is on a mission to rebuild their team for a new era under Spanish coach Manolo Marquez. The Gaurs have already completed the signings of Sandesh Jhinghan, Boris Singh, Rowllin Borges, Raynier Fernandes, Udanta Singh, and a couple of others still on the way. It will be a massive summer ahead in Goa and one which we all should keep our eyes on as they keep mesmerizing us.
