Match Preview: Bengaluru Looking To Reclaim Throne As ATK Mohun Bagan Eye Their First

-

The Indian Super League (ISL) final is set to take place on March 18, 2023, and the two teams vying for the title are ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC. Both sides have put in impressive performances throughout the season, but only one will emerge victorious on the day.

ATK Mohun Bagan come into the final on the back of a strong season, finishing 3rd in the league with 34 points from their 20 matches. They have been particularly impressive at the back, conceding just 17 goals all season, 2nd only to Hyderabad FC (who conceded just 16) but were knocked out in the semifinals by none other than the Mariners. In attack, they have been led by the prolific Dimitri Petratos, who has scored 10 goals in 22 matches, who along with Manvir Singh and Kiyan Nassiri will be a major threat to Bengaluru FC’s defense.

On the other hand, Bengaluru FC have had a slightly more inconsistent season conceding 23 goals and finishing 4th in the league, also with 34 points from their 20 matches. However, they have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the knockout stages, having defeated Kerala Blasters in the playoffs and Mumbai City FC in the semis to reach the cup final. They will be looking to carry that momentum into the final and upset the odds against ATK Mohun Bagan.

The key battle in the match is likely to be in midfield, where both sides have some talented players. For ATK Mohun Bagan, the likes of Carl McHugh, Glan Martins, and Hugo Boumous have been instrumental in controlling the tempo of games and providing a solid base for the team to build from. Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC will be looking to their midfield maestros Javi Hernandez and Suresh Wangjam to pull the strings and create chances for their forwards Sivasakthi Narayanan, Roy Krishna, and of course, the one and only, Sunil Chhetri.

In terms of head-to-head records, both the clubs have lost their away fixtures with a one-goal difference this season, which puts the final into a tie-breaker title decider. Naturally, both teams will be determined to put in a strong performance as the two sides have taken vastly different paths to the final, but all that matters now is who can rise to the occasion and set the record straight.

Off the field, both sets of fans will be hoping to make their presence felt inside the stadium. The atmosphere will surely be electric, with supporters of both teams cheering their sides on to glory. The pressure will be on the managers to get their tactics right on the day, with the slightest mistake potentially proving costly in a match of this magnitude.

Overall, the stage is set for a thrilling encounter between two of the best teams in the Indian Super League. It promises to be a match full of excitement, drama, and tension, with both sides giving it their all in pursuit of the title. But will the Blues maintain their winning streak and repeat their 2018-19 ISL crowning, or will the Green and Maroon Brigade pull off an upset and claim a historic 1st title for the club? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the 2023 ISL final is not to be missed!
