Manolo Marquez Roca, 54-year-old former Indian Super League champion coach is all set to complete his move to FC Goa. The Spanish tactician is a highly appreciated gaffer who is one of the most favourite personalities in the league. He has been with Indian Football for the past three seasons, lifting the ISL trophy with Hyderabad FC in the 2021/22 season.
Manolo Marquez came to Indian football during the 2020-21 ISL season to a Hyderabad FC team that needed betterment as a whole. He balanced and laid off a strong foundation to build for the next seasons. Nizams finished in 5th place behind FC Goa just losing out to seal their place in the semifinals. It was the second season, 2022-23 that marked the era of Manolo Marquez which earned him a place in the minds of the entire footballing fraternity in India by winning the coveted Hero ISL trophy for Hyderabad FC for the first time in their club history.
His third term at the club was this concluded season where he again sealed them a place in the semifinals eventually losing out to ATK Mohun Bagan. But, what Manolo did at the club for three seasons was an outright reformation of the once-broken squad to a strong competitor for any club to face off with. He was assigned strong challenges to pursue with limited resource but he managed to pull off something extraordinary. He rejuvenated the whole squad of Hyderabad FC and created numerous talents for Indian football.
Manolo Marquez was approached by Bengaluru FC to become their next head coach after this season but the deal eventually went dead after Simon Grayson, their present coach fortified the team to make an exceptional run of 11 games unbeaten to the final of Hero ISL 2022-23. Now, his task is with the Gaur Army to resurrect them to past glory. FC Goa, who won the league shield for the first time is now in a struggling period for the past two seasons.
FC Goa already has a built squad with the presence of Indian International players like Brandon Fernandes, Seriton Fernandes along with young players such as Ayush Chhetri, Brison Fernandes, Aiban Dohling at his disposal. In terms of foreign contingent, he has Edu Bedia who is one of the best midfielders in the history of ISL, Noah Sadaoui who was on hot form his debut season with 9 goals and assists each. His proven expertise in ISL with a formidable squad of FC Goa will be a mammoth target for opposition teams to deal with as time progresses.
