ISL Match-Week 4 – Key Takeaways

-

As the game week 4 of the Hero ISL 2022-23 comes to an end, let us take a look back through the key takeaways from the week.

Hugo Boumous shines, ATK Mohun Bagan enjoys derby glory

ISL
ATK Mohun Bagan vs SC East Bengal

ATK Mohun Bagan, on Saturday, conquered their arch-rivals East Bengal with a 2-0 win.

There was an official attendance of 62,542 at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan, making it the most attended Hero ISL game in 7 years.

Hugo Boumous is the key man to talk about as his stellar display in the midfield won it for the Mariners. He drew first blood in the 56th minute of the game through a sensational strike from distance. The Moroccan amazed the Mohun Bagan supporters with his runs, passes, and footwork. The other goal for ATK Mohun Bagan was netted by Manvir Singh in the 65th minute.

Mumbai City FC continues unbeaten run, Kerala Blasters misery intensifies

Kerala Blasters have suffered their third straight loss after Mumbai City FC defeated them in a 2-0 scoreline in Kochi. The team which was the league’s runners-up last season has had a surprisingly suboptimal start to the season. The team is currently placed 10th in the table with 3 losses and a win, which came against East Bengal in the opening fixture.

Mehtab Singh starred in Mumbai City FC’s 2-0 victory over the Blasters. He scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute through a thunderous strike from inside the penalty box. He also put in a fine defensive display which earned him the Hero of the match award and his team the much needed 3 points.

Odisha FC continues home run

Odisha FC picked up their third win of the season as they beat Bengaluru FC 1-0. Nandhakumar Sekar scored the only goal of the game with a brilliant strike from outside the box. His hero-of-the-match performance helped the Juggernauts continue their dominance at home.

On the other end, Bengaluru FC have lost their 2nd straight game in the Hero ISL 2022-23. The much-hyped duo of Roy Krishna and Sunil Chhetri has failed to impress the fans as of now. Roy Krishna has a goal to his account this season which came against Chennaiyin FC in a 1-1 draw while Sunil Chhetri hasn’t found the target this season yet. In the 3 games that Bengaluru FC has played till now, the duo has started together only twice and has not linked up for a goal yet.

The season so far of the Indian legend Sunil Chhetri in the Hero ISL has been quite disappointing as he has been unable to contribute anything of note to the team. Despite looking lively in the Durand Cup, the greatest Indian footballer of our generation is yet to find his footing in the league.
