ISL – Punjab FC set to sign Melroy Assisi

-

Punjab FC are set to sign centre-back Melroy Assisi from I-League side Rajasthan United FC, IFTWC can confirm. Despite being born in the United Arab Emirates, Melroy has Indian citizenship.

Punjab FC have also completed the signings of Ricky Shabong, Nikhil Prabhu, Kingslee Fernandes, and Nitesh Darjee among others.

Standing at an impressive height of 1.85 meters, Melroy Assisi’s physical presence allows him to dominate aerial duels and provide stability to the back-line. His right foot adds versatility to his game, enabling accurate passes and precise clearances. He is known for his disciplined approach to defending and his ability to marshal the defense with great communication and leadership skills.

Melroy is a talented and versatile defender, who is expected to add a lot of value to Punjab FC’s defence. He brings a unique blend of skill, athleticism, and tactical awareness to his game. At the age of 24, he has already showcased immense potential and established himself as a valuable asset to his teams.

As a centre-back, he assumes a crucial role in the team’s defensive line, utilizing his height, strength, and positional sense to neutralize opposing attacks. Assisi’s ability to read the game and make timely interceptions has earned him praise and admiration from fans and hasn’t gone unnoticed by scouts.

Melroy has appeared for several clubs in the past. Starting with the U18 side of (now defunct) Mumbai FC, and then with Reliance Football Young Champs after which he was signed by Chennaiyin FC for their reserves in 2019. He never made it with the Marina Machans and went to join ARA FC.

Following that and after stints with Real Kashmir FC II and Hydera Sports FC, Melroy joined ISL side Chennaiyin FC ahead of the 2021/22 season. But, in the winter transfer window, he was loaned to Rajasthan United FC. After his loan deal expired, he returned back to his parent club, and decided to sign for the side from Rajasthan on a permanent basis on a long-term deal. The 24-year-old is now all set to join Staikos Vergetis’ Punjab FC for the upcoming season.
