Bengaluru FC have extended the contract of recently awarded ISL emerging player of the year, Naorem Roshan Singh for 4 more years, IFTWC can confirm.
“23-year-old versatile full-back Naorem Roshan Singh has extended his contract with Bengaluru FC for four more years and will stay at the club till the end of 2025-26 season,” a source close to the developments informed IFTWC.
Naorem Roshan Singh has been one of the best Indian players in the league this season. The 23-year-old versatile fullback from Manipur is good at both the flanks and has stepped up his game this season. Roshan had played only 2 games for the Blues in the 20/21 season.
But this season, usual left-back Ashique Kuruniyan got injured at the start of the season and since then head coach Marco Pezzaouli decided to play Roshan in that position. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Roshan was not just an important and regular player on the team as he played 17 games, but he also scored one goal and recorded 7 assists to his name.
In terms of the number of assists, Naorem Roshan Singh finished the ISL 2021-22 season only behind Jamshedpur FC’s Greg Stewart (10 assists) and was the 2nd joint assist provider in the league alongside Kerala Blasters FC’s Adrian Luna and Mumbai City FC’s Ahmed Jahouh (7 assists each).
Although Bengaluru FC couldn’t make it to the playoffs this season, Roshan’s performance and hard work didn’t go to waste as he was called up for the Indian national team’s friendlies against Bahrain and Belarus earlier this year. Having turned out for the Indian National team at various age-group levels, Roshan was named in Igor Stimac’s squad for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Naorem Roshan Singh began his youth career at the AIFF Elite Academy before joining Bengaluru FC’s reserve team for the I-League Second Division. Naorem moved to Indian Arrows on loan for the 2017-18 Hero I-League season. After gaining valuable experience, he returned to his parent club and played for the B team. He made his first-team debut with the Blues during the 2020-21 ISL season.
Bengaluru FC have failed to make it to the ISL semi-finals for two seasons now, and are currently having a transition in the team as they look to be more competitive in the upcoming seasons. With the renewal of Naorem Roshan Singh’s contract, the Blues can continue rebuilding the team around him. Roshan might stay on to become the next club captain after legendary Sunil Chhetri.
