Edu Bedia is set to leave the club after six seasons with the Gaurs.

FC Goa‘s 34-year-old experienced Spanish midfielder, Edu Bedia will leave the club as his contract expired last month. He leaves the club as one of the longest-serving foreigners to grace the league and don the bright orange of FC Goa.

It all began in the 2017/18 edition of the Indian Super League when a 27-year-old Spanish midfielder, who had previously showcased his skills and talents for various clubs such as Racing Santander, UD Salamanca, Hercules CF, Barcelona B, 1860 Munich and, Real Oviedo, made the journey from Real Zaragoza, a second-tier Spanish club, to join FC Goa via a free transfer. Over time, he emerged as one of the key players for the team, consistently starting in almost every game.

Under the tutelage of the Spanish tactician Sergio Lobera, he had an impactful first season, aiding the club in reaching the semi-finals. Throughout his tenure at FC Goa, he proved to be a versatile player, adapting seamlessly to the tactical strategies employed by various managers. Consequently, he earned a reputation among fans as one of the legendary figures of FC Goa, not only for his significant contributions on the field but also for his leadership as captain, which led to remarkable accomplishments for the club.

His major notable achievements after he joined the club include winning the 2018/19 Hero Super Cup campaign followed by being crowned as the ISL League Shield Winners in the 2020/21 campaign and winning one of the oldest-ever football tournaments in India, the Durand Cup in the same season.

The 2018/19 campaign was one of his most triumphant seasons after joining the league when he pulled off seven goals and four assists in that season. His amazing link-up with star striker, Ferran Corominas helped the club in all possible ways as they displayed some brilliant football together. The Spaniard has been a part of many iconic moments for the Gaurs including the first-ever goal scored by an Indian side in the group stages of the AFC Champions League.

In January 2023, Edu Bedia achieved a significant milestone by completing a hundred appearances for FC Goa since his arrival at the club in 2017. Throughout his tenure, he consistently played a crucial role in matches, often making decisive contributions by scoring vital goals, especially in crucial moments. These remarkable performances have endeared him to the fans, cementing his status as an all-time favorite player.

In June 2022, Edu Bedia extended his stay with FC Goa for another year saying, “I am thrilled to continue my journey with FC Goa. It has been a wonderful experience for me so far and I am excited to be a part of the future of this team. I have had some great moments and want to achieve even more success during my time here”

And now as he is set to bid farewell to the club and the fans of FC Goa. IFTWC wishes him all the best for all his future endeavors.
