The exciting final of this season’s Hero Indian Women’s League awaits tonight as Kickstart FC and Gokulam Kerala FC are set to clash in the TransStadia for glory in the IWL’s 6th edition on 21st May.
The match will kick off at 6 PM and the final will be streamed live on Indian Football YouTube Channel. The Hero IWL 2022-23 season started last month with 16 teams, the highest number of teams in the league’s history. After 62 grueling matches, now there are only two teams left to be separated.
Thrilling semi-final wins on Friday saw both teams reach the final. Gokulam Kerala defeated Eastern Sporting Union by a 5-1 score, while Kickstart saw off a strong Sethu challenge with a 2-0 margin.
The Malabarians are now just one win away from their third consecutive Hero IWL crown and will be aiming to continue their dominance. The reigning champions have been in excellent form throughout the campaign. Having some of the most experienced stalwarts like Ashalatha Devi, Dangmey Grace, Indumati Kathiresan, and scoring machine Sabitra Bhandari, they form a strong core of the team.
Meanwhile, Kickstart made history by reaching their first Hero IWL Final. The team, led by captain Dalima Chibber, enjoyed a memorable campaign, finishing second in Group B before beating HOPS 2-1 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-final, Kickstart went on to beat Sethu by a 2-0 scoreline. Kickstart was placed third in the Hero IWL last season, and ahead of their campaign this season, coach Langam Chaoba Devi had affirmed that her side will not just aim for another podium finish, but the top prize.
Between Kickstart FC and them making history tonight, the heavyweight Gokulam Kerala FC stands in their way, and it certainly promises to be a blockbuster game at TransStadia, on Sunday night as the two sides are set to battle it out in a highly competitive match to win the 22/23 Hero IWL Season.
