IFTWC can confirm that Jamshedpur FC have signed Germanpreet Singh for the upcoming season. The midfielder signed a two-year contract extension in 2020 with Chennaiyin and is now set to join Jamshedpur on a free transfer.
Germanpreet, an AIFF Elite Academy product, began his professional football career with Dempo before joining Minerva Punjab in 2017. During the following year’s draft, Chennaiyin made a bid for the dynamic midfielder, who signed a three-year contract with the club. Singh has been a mainstay in the Chennaiyin midfield since then. He has appeared in 62 games for Chennai, scoring one goal and assisting three times. During his stint with the Marina Machans, the 1.75m tall midfielder has also won a league title.
However, it is understood that after his contract is up, Germanpreet will join Jamshedpur FC, ending his five-year association with Chennaiyin.
Last season, Germanpreet played in 15 games for Chennaiyin, starting 10 of them. The 25-year-old, who is usually found in the center of the midfield three, produced two big chances and assisted once. In addition, he made 0.9 interceptions per game, as well as, 0.7 tackles every game. The midfielder is adept both defensively and offensively, thus making him an ideal fit for Jamshedpur.
After winning the shield, Jamshedpur is looking to strengthen their squad in order to retain their title. They’re also preparing for the arrival of a new coach, as Owen Coyle has left the club to join Queen’s Park in Scottish League One. Germanpreet is The Red Miners’ first transfer market acquisition this season, and they will be expected to continue to search for more as the market progresses in order to be ready for the new season.
