Sergio Castel – ISL 2019/20
After a couple of unsuccessful seasons, Jamshedpur FC appointed experienced gaffer Antonio Iriondo. A lot was expected from The Men of Steel but they again failed to live up to potential and finished 7th in the League table. Although the club’s long-awaited search for a top-quality striker came to an end that season after they signed Sergio Castel on loan from Atletico Madrid.
Sergio was one of the youngest foreign players in the 6th ISL season and arguably one of the best strikers to play in ISL. The Spaniard showed his quality and composure in the box netting 7 goals in just 11 appearances. Farukh Choudhury and Sergio Castel formed a destructive partnership in the initial part of the season but they failed to continue the same form until the end of the season. Sergio was injured in the midway of the season which halted Jamshedpur FC’s chances of qualifying for the Top 4. It will be interesting to see if Jamshedpur FC brings Castel back for another season in ISL, this time under their new head coach Owen Coyle.
