Jishnu Balakrishnan has signed for Kenkre FC on a one year deal.
The former Chennai City defender is now a part of the Mumbai based club. Kenkre have started building their squad already and are looking to sign more I League experienced players to add depth and experience to their roster. They’ve already started their camp with the players they had for the I-League second division earlier this year.
The young fullback was always regarded as a future prospect by many Indian football pundits after his exemplary and consistent performance for whichever club he has played for. It will be very intersting to see Jishnu in a squad filled with exciting young talents and new to the league.
The 23-year-old right-back who is a product of the Malabar Special Police Football Academy has previously represented clubs such as Gokulam Kerala FC and Kerala Blasters FC.
He played for the reserve side of Kerala Blasters and the defender earned the spotlight after his brilliant performances for the former I-League champions.
Kenkre FC were promoted to the I-League as a result of Chennai City being denied their chances of playing top division after failing to secure the ICLS licence.
After his contract with Chennai City expired, Balakrishnan was looking for opportunities to play in the Indian Super League and was close to joining North East United FC but the deal collapsed and now it is the Mumbai club that allows Jishnu to get some top footballing action in the upcoming I-League.
Jishnu is no stranger having played in the I league before as well and was in fact a main stay in Chennai’s right back position. With such good wealth of experience and versatility at their expense, Kenkre FC will aim for bigger goals this season.
