Kerala Blasters are set to strengthen their goalkeeping department with the addition of experienced custodian Karanjit Singh. Albino Gomes, the first choice goalkeeper of Kerala, is injured.
Albino sustained an injury to his knee during the game against Odisha. In the pre-match press conference, head coach Ivan Vukomanovic said, “When I saw the videos afterwards, he kicked the ball, and then he stepped badly on his left leg and felt some issues in his knee. We did not want him to continue, and now it will take some days to evaluate the status of the injury; I think on Monday, he will take some more tests to see exactly what the problem with his knee is and then we can know; how to proceed.”
Karanjit comes with a wealth of experience under his belt. The 35-year-old goalkeeper from Hoshiarpur has won the ISL title twice with Chennaiyin FC. Karanjit is one of the most experienced goalkeepers among the active goalkeepers in the country as he has played a lot of games in the ISL, I-League and AFC Cup. He has represented India on several occasions.
Apart from Prabhsukhan Gill, Kerala have Sachin Suresh and Muheet Khan in their goalkeeping department, but they all lack experience at the top level. Karanjit’s experience could be crucial for Kerala Blasters on the field and off the field.
